Task Detail on Your Assignment

Your Assignment: write a pattern and share your ideas about patterns in networked learning
The outcomes of this activity will be the establishment of a pattern language that relates to networked learning portal development, and dialogues (in the form of blogs) on QWAN and the use of patterns in networked learning.

Learning Objectives

By participating in this wiki on patterns for networked learning portal development, you will:

  • Demonstrate a full understanding of what patterns are
  • Exercise the skills required to write your own patterns
  • Gain an awareness of the resources available to you in terms of distance education patterns which have already been written by others
  • Share your thoughts/questions on QWAN in distance education, current distance education pattern needs, and the future of patterns in distance education.
Task Number One
Visit the Patterns Open House, Tuesday November 1, 8-10 pm EST, in Elluminate.

Task Number Two - 70 marks - due Dec. 7
Collaborate in a pattern writing exercise with the members of your portal team:

1. Select and phrase a problem for specific components of the networked learning portal development process. You can choose a pattern problem from our PatternProblems page or design your own problem.
2. Choose a specific learning portal context to which you will apply the pattern. This context could be the context you experienced in the MDDE663 class.
3. Refer to the resources below to design your pattern. In particular, review the RubRic before you begin. You will also have the option to go to external resources to find an existing pattern and apply it to your chosen context.
4. Critique your pattern as a group.
5. Find other patterns that relate or link to your pattern (optional)
6. Submit your pattern to your teams pattern area on the ViewPatterns page of this wiki

Task Number Three - 30 marks - due Dec. 7

As a third part of the activity, you will each submit a posting to one of DeBlogs on the topics of QWAN in DE or ideas about patterns - current or future DE pattern needs.
